The two halves of the split case Type 1 Volkswagen engine are joined together using six 12mm studs and nuts. These washers fit underneath the case nuts and protect the magnesium case material (or aluminum on later models) from being chewed up by the steel hardware. These washers fit 1200cc (40HP) to 1600cc engines, which were used by VW in the 1961 to 1977 Standard Beetle, 1971 to 1979 Super Beetle, 1961 to 1974 Karmann Ghia, Type 2 (Bus) 1961 to 1971, 1962 to 1973 Type 3 (Notchback, Squareback, Fastback), and 1973 to 1974 Thing models. The washer is made of 3mm thick steel and has an inside diameter of 12.2mm and an outside diameter of 22mm. Six required per car.

EMPI offers this replacement hardware for Volkswagen oil pumps. The bolts are 40mm long, 6 x 1.0 thread pitch, and have a 10mm head. Each bolt goes through the oil pump cover plate, through the pump, and into the case of the motor. Hardware sold as a pack of 4 (enough for 1 car). These bolts fit all Type 1 VW motors up to the introduction of the 1500cc motor. They fit Beetle and Karmann through 1966 and Bus through 1965.

Replacement oil slinger for VW. This is the big disc that slips on the crank, just inside the nose of the case. It prevents oil from the #4 main bearing from overwhelming the crank pulley, keeping oil inside the engine case. This is a must and if not in place will allow oil to blow out behind the pulley. Make sure you have it on before assembling the short block
