Steering Box, Economy, Fits Beetle 50-77 Ghia 56-74

        113-415-061CE

Steering box for aircooled VW.This box attaches to your steering shaft and swings the pitman arm side to side. It's also responsible for a leverage change due to gearing. Worn steering boxes have tight and/or loose spots and if you can turn your wheel and the wheels don't turn for 1/4 turn or more, then it is time to replace. It is also a good idea to replace the steering box to shaft coupler as well.
NOTE: These boxes tend to have more slop side to side in them than the Premium TRW boxes. We will not return these for that reason. If you want to be certain you will not have side to side play, then purchase the TRW version.
If there is no worm spindle axial play, yet there seems to be play in the gearbox, remove and disassemble the gearbox so the roller can be checked for axial play. If the roller has excessive axial play, the entire roller shaft must be replaced.
